Basic History
Sightings is a biweekly, electronic editorial published by the Marty
Center at the University of Chicago Divinity School and subscription
is available at no cost.
The Martin Marty Center is the institute for
advanced research in all fields of the study of religion at the University of
Chicago Divinity School. It provides facilities, staff, and financial
support for research pursued by the Divinity School faculty, University of
Chicago graduate students, and affiliated scholars from around the world.
Through a variety of consultations, conferences, and publications, the Center
brings scholarly perspectives to bear on religious questions facing the wider
public, while encouraging scholars to situate their academic questions within a
broader cultural frame of reference.
Basic Beliefs
The Divinity School prides itself as an institution devoted to systematic
research and inquiry into the manifold dimensions of religion.
The Martin Marty Center promotes a range of
research projects and initiatives with particular attention to the ways that
scholarly enterprise can interact most productively with the widest range of
conversation partners in te academy and wider public.
Sightings, maintains the beliefs and
practices of the Divinity School and the Martin Center with a
devotion to excellence in publications.

Basic Facts
Sightings welcomes submissions of 500 to 750 worlds in length that seek
to illuminate and interpret the forces of faith in a pluralist society. The
editor also encourages new approaches to issues related to religion and public
life. Columns may be quoted or republished in full, with attribution to the
author of the column, Sightings, and the Martin Marty Center at
the University of Chicago Divinity School.
