Basic History
Pacific Media Ministry is a non-profit religious/educational corporation founded
in 1990 by Lutheran pastor Dr. George Carlson. MIDPOINT, a half-hour, weekly
television program is this organization's main product. "MIDPOINT is the
point between what we have been and what we shall become... we can become more
than we are by the grace of God."
MIDPOINT had its beginnings at KPBS studios in
San Diego, CA, with television being the "medium of choice to try to make a
difference." In 1992, MIDPOINT began airing nationwide on a cable channel
called VISN, the channel of the National Interfaith Cable Coalition. The
programs were produced in a one-hour studio talk-show format with audience
participation. Episodes dealt with a variety of topics such as
"Racism" and "AIDS".
Today, MIDPOINT episodes are field-produced,
magazine - style programs which take an in-depth look at issues ranging from
"How to Raise a Moral Child" to "Addiction and Depression"
to "Healing Hurting Marriages". The program airs across the country on
the Hallmark Channel and on FamilyNet.
In addition to the MIDPOINT series, PMM
produces other programming in cooperation with organizations which share its
vision of uplifting ethics, values and faith in this nation and the world.
Basic Beliefs
The credo for Pacific Media Ministries is stated on its Web site.
The philosophy of Midpoint is summed up on the
Website as follows:
"MIDPOINT's purpose is to: build up, not tear down; heal, not destroy;
affirm faith; and, remain faithful to God's revelation in Jesus, The Christ.
MIDPOINT programs are both prophetic and
pastoral...they highlight a particular problem or issue from a spiritual
perspective, but also seek to provide help and compassion through the stories of
individuals with whom viewers can identify. Personal stories and testimony are
the strength of the MIDPOINT series."
