Loneliness: Climbing Out of the Spiritual Void
A nursing home evaluator for the New York State Health Department, Norman Andrzejewski said many elderly people are lonely. Sometimes what seems like a simple effort can pull people from the depths of loneliness, he said. “People have been known to talk who haven’t talked in years after they’ve become friends with a cat or a dog or a kid. They open their arms.”

Loneliness: Who Will Notice When You Die
Three weeks before Christmas 1993, Wolfgang Dircks died while watching television. Neighbors in his Berlin apartment complex hardly noticed the absence of the 43-year-old. His rent continued to be paid automatically out of his bank account. Five years later, the money ran out, and the landlord entered Dircks's apartment to inquire.

It Is Not Good for Man to Be Alone

It's ok to be lonely
Loneliness is the only recorded negative emotion/experience that preceded sin. I'm feeling especially lonely right now, and have been all week. As a Christian, I'm wondering if this means I'm not faithful enough.

The grace of solitude
For many years I did everything possible to escape feelings that even remotely resembled loneliness. Somewhere I had internalized the message that loneliness is something to be avoided, an indication that something is wrong or lacking in myself or in my life. When lonely feelings began to creep in, I had ways to cover them--read a book, have a snack, get busy, phone someone, say prayers, do anything but listen to my real experience.

The lonely male
Loneliness is an unavoidable consequence of being social creatures. It occurs when our ordinary and necessary needs for attachment and affection aren't met. It's an experience of deprivation, of being without people who love us and fill us up.
