Basic History
The Franciscan friars of Cincinnati published the first issue of St. Anthony Messenger magazine on June 1, 1893. Over time, it grew into one of the principle Catholic family magazines in the United States. In 1970, after the Second Vatican Council (1962 - 1865), the publication expanded to become St. Anthony Messenger Press, a publication company that is now one of America's larges publishers of Roman catholic spirituality resources. In 1994, St. Anthony Messenger Press acquired Franciscan Communications. AmericanCatholic.org appeared on the World Wide Web in June of 1996.

Basic Beliefs
The St. Anthony Messenger began as a publication for secular Franciscans, to enrich the spiritual life of American Catholics. After the Second Vatican Council, the publication began to reflect the new outlooks of that Council. They began publishing materials to help explain the changes that were sweeping over the church, especially those affecting Mass and other sacraments.

Leadership
Roman Catholic Archbishops of Cincinnati:
Most Reverend Daniel E. Pilarczyk
Most Reverend Carl K. Moeddel
